Follow-up Sampling and Investigation
When the E. coli result from a drain is greater than 3,000 colonies/100 ml, the drain is posted on a "priority list" and follow-up investigations will be carried out. These investigations may include sampling or televising a sewer to locate the source of the suspicious discharge. The Macomb County Public Works Office and the Oakland County Drain Commissioner's Office will perform investigations in drains under their respective jurisdictions. However, when follow-up investigations lead to other, non-county drains, the Bear Creek team will refer the matters to the owners of those facilities, such as the local communities, Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and county road commissions.
Once the source of an illicit discharge is tracked back to a specific residence or commercial/industrial building, dye-testing will be performed to verify the source of the illicit connection.
The results from this task will be updated as new information becomes available.
